Standard we target

This site targets Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1, Level AA, published by the World Wide Web Consortium. WCAG 2.1 is the standard most commonly cited in U.S. ADA Title III enforcement and the standard the European Union adopted in EN 301 549. Level AA is the conformance level recommended for public-facing institutional sites.

Status

The site is substantially conformant with WCAG 2.1 AA. This assessment is based on a self-audit conducted by Undercurrent Research Labs covering: color contrast (verified mathematically against the 4.5:1 and 3:1 thresholds), keyboard navigation, focus visibility, heading structure, semantic HTML, alternative text on images, reduced-motion support, and form-control accessibility where applicable.

Self-assessment is not the same as third-party audit. We expect to commission a formal accessibility audit before the platform launches to general availability and will update this statement with results.

Known limitations

We are aware of the following limitations and are working to address them:

• SVG diagrams on the homepage and inside the Institutional Behavioral Analysis explainer carry role="img" and an aria-label summary, but a screen-reader user does not get the same step-by-step decomposition a sighted reader gets from the diagram. We are evaluating whether to add long-description text immediately adjacent to each diagram.
• PDF papers hosted at cdn.undercurrentresearchlabs.com have not yet been audited for tagged-PDF compliance. We will remediate published PDFs to PDF/UA conformance before formally moving any working paper to "published" status with a public PDF link.
• The mobile navigation uses a pure-CSS hamburger toggle that opens via a hidden checkbox. This is keyboard-operable but is not announced as a "menu" by all screen readers; we are evaluating a small JavaScript enhancement to announce the open/closed state properly.

How we test

The site is built with semantic HTML, generous typography (body text floors at 14px sans-serif, prose at 16-17px serif), and a design system whose colors are documented and verified for AA contrast in every text/background combination. We test interactively with keyboard-only navigation, with screen-reader spot-checks (VoiceOver on macOS, NVDA on Windows), and with browser-level zoom up to 200%.
